In All Things—Peace.
Today while reading my Tony Evans Study Bible, I came upon Romans 8:37, which says, “No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Many times, the word “conquerors” is what stands out in this verse. It’s a good word for sure. But the word “in” should also stand out. When we are actively IN a situation, we are conquerors.
Jesus never promised that we would have no trouble. As a matter of fact, He says we will in John 16:33. We will have suffering and trouble in this world. Oh, how we wish we didn’t have to experience pain. But IN those situations and IN that pain, Jesus is actively waiting for us to turn to Him. He offers us peace in suffering. Believe it or not, we can have peacefulness in every circumstance. In sickness, in persecution, and in danger. It seems impossible sometimes, but we must look to Him, who is our strength. Jesus guards our hearts and minds with a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). We can have peace while everyone around us is in chaos. They may not understand how we have such peace! Our tranquility comes from our Savior, Jesus!
What we need to do in our moments of anguish and fear is give everything to Jesus. When worry and anxiety start to kick in, we can make a choice to give it all to Jesus through prayer and thankfulness. Then we dwell on good things–things that are pure, just, honorable, true, lovely, and commendable (Philippians 4:8), and God’s peace will be with us (Philippians 4:9).
Let us not forget who our Father and our Savior is. He is there for us, and He is in every situation. He sees, He knows, & He weeps with us. But He also saves, He heals, and most of all, He loves. The course of our lives, our future, is in His hands. Never forget this in your most difficult circumstances.
